What Technology does Subaru EyeSight Use?
Subaru vehicles with Eyesight technology use LiDAR, or Light Detection and Ranging, which uses a pulsed laser to precisely measure distances with the Subaru EyeSight Lane Keep system. This unique system is designed to keep track of the vehicle’s location within the lane and notify the driver when they are veering out of it. This same safety system also detects objects in front of the vehicle that a driver is likely to hit and automatically reacts by reducing the power of the engine. This decreases impact forces and possible damage to the vehicle.
What Subaru Models have EyeSight?
The
Subaru Outback and the
Legacy were the first two of Subaru’s vehicles to include the technologically-advanced Subaru EyeSight system. The Impreza and the crossover version, the
Crosstrek, soon added the EyeSight suite of safety features as an add-on to their impressive list of accessories, followed by the WRX and the
Forester. In fact, the Forester and Outback now include this advanced safety feature as standard equipment. Like many of its sister vehicles, Subaru’s new electric vehicle, the Solterra combines the Eyesight suite with their symmetrical all-wheel drive, brake assist capabilities, and adaptive cruise control. In fact, all models except the BRZ sports car have EyeSight standard or optional in their packages.
FAQs about Subaru EyeSight
Does Subaru EyeSight stop the car if necessary?
After the maintained distance from the car in front is set, the Subaru EyeSight suite will monitor frontal traffic and adjust your speed appropriately when necessary. Adaptive cruise control also works to slow and even stop your vehicle completely, if required to help avoid a crash.
Does Subaru EyeSight work at night?
Subaru EyeSight works no matter what time of day or traffic conditions. This safety system works on the country road where deer could unexpectedly dart out in front of you, to the stop-and-go bumper to bumper traffic in a bustling city. Subaru’s EyeSight works day or night and not only keeps you in your lane and avoids collisions, but also alerts you when the car in front of you moves. In addition, it's easy and convenient to operate.
At What Speeds does Subaru EyeSight Work?
Subaru Eyesight is always working to protect you and your vehicle. When your Subaru is traveling below 19mph, the Subaru EyeSight suite can monitor even a pedestrian walking in front of the car. This same safety system can detect a deer running in front of your car when driving up to 90 mph. It’s nothing short of phenomenal that the EyeSight system can be as precise as it is in all sorts of conditions.
Why is Subaru the safest vehicle?
Since its introduction with the
Subaru Outback and
Legacy in 2013, Subaru EyeSight technology has been continually updated and enhanced. The newest generation of the EyeSight suite of safety features has been tested in the new
Subaru Solterra and now uses LiDAR, a technology that is used in airplanes and helicopters. Research has shown that EyeSight technology reduces collisions in Subarus by 85 percent. However, Subaru is not satisfied with its high safety scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The innovative automaker is setting its next goal at zero traffic fatalities in their automobiles by 2030.
