The New Redesigned Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru debuted the current generation Crosstrek in 2013 (then called the XV Crosstrek), and redesigned the Crosstrek in 2018.  The 2018 model grew significantly in size, and now rides on an all-new platform with 40% better crash absorption capability.  Subaru typically introduces all-new models on a five year product cycle.  Since next year will start a new cycle with all-new design from the ground up, this year's model has less drastic changes.

The New 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Changes

In 2021, Subaru offered a Crosstrek Sport option for the first time, with a 2.5-liter direct injection Subaru Boxer engine, aggressive grille and arch moldings, gunmetal exterior accents and dark gray wheels, and the exclusive Plasma Yellow Pearl paint.  The interior is clad in adventure-ready StarTex water-repellent upholstery with yellow contrast stitching, and yellow accent trim.  Also new in this past year is an upgrade to the Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology.  This technology can help reduce frontal impacts by 85% by applying full braking force in emergency situations with Pre-Collision Braking. For the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek, EyeSight now includes Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, offering peace of mind by maintaining a safe distance ahead.

How the Subaru Crosstrek Compares to Other Models

Subaru originally built the Crosstrek's design off of the Impreza hatchback, giving it a raised suspension, and a more rugged exterior.  The Crosstrek is one of the most popular compact SUVs on the market today, thanks to its combination of fuel economy, affordability, and utility.  Similar models to the Subaru Crosstrek include the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3, and Toyota RAV4.  The Subaru Crosstrek offers more horsepower and torque compared to the Honda HR-V, and also offers a larger multimedia display.  While the Mazda CX-3 competes on price and efficiency, the Subaru Crosstrek again offers more horsepower and a more advanced infotainment system.  The Crosstrek's infotainment system beats out available options for the Toyota RAV4 as well, and offers much better fuel economy.  The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek achieves 27/34mpg (city/highway), while the RAV4 only gets 23/30.

The All-New 2022 Subaru Crosstrek's Performance

The Subaru Crosstrek is built to last, and has an expected lifespan between 200,000-250,000 miles.  Based on a 15,000 mile per year average, one could expect a Crosstrek to last between 13-17 years before requiring major repairs or breaking down.  Despite being a relatively young model, introduced in 2013, owners have reported positive testimonies of crossing the 100k mark with no major issues, besides basic maintenance and part replacements.  It is important to note that this long lifespan is dependent on proper care and maintenance.  Owners can help get the most out of the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek by keeping up to date with the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, performing routine checks on fluid levels and tire pressure, and cultivating smooth driving habits to reduce wear and tear on components.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for Driving in the Snow

Where other crossovers get stuck, the Crosstrek does not.  This is largely thanks to the Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive that comes standard on all 2022 Subaru Crosstreks.  In the event of deep snow that causes wheel slippage, the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive will divert power to the axle with more traction.  The Crosstrek also features a Limited Slip Device, which brakes the slipping wheel to help send torque to the wheel that has traction for better acceleration.  The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, allowing it to drive in deep snow without getting stuck.
