Are Subaru's Environmentally Friendly?

Subaru is committed to building environmentally-friendly automobiles by reducing waste in the production of new vehicles and developing hybrid and electric vehicles to reduce emissions.  All of Subaru’s vehicles are manufactured in zero-landfill facilities. In addition, Subaru has helped educate other companies around the world about their zero-waste practices.  Subaru currently offers a hybrid model of the Crosstrek, with a hybrid model of the Forester on the way, as well as the completely electric 2023 Subaru Solterra.

Is Subaru a Green Company?

Subaru works to reduce waste, preserve natural spaces, and safeguard resources for future generations with the Subaru Loves The Earth initiative.  In 2004, Subaru’s manufacturing plant in Indiana became the first auto manufacturing facility in the U.S. to achieve zero-landfill status, meaning that all waste is either recycled or turned into electricity, and the Subaru of Indiana is the only auto production plant in the U.S. to be designated as a backyard wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.  Today, all of Subaru’s manufacturing plants are zero-waste facilities.  Other missions in the Subaru Loves The Earth initiative include a reforestation project with the National Forest Foundation, a partnership with the National Parks Conservation Association, and the Leave No Trace program, which educates and encourages outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy the outdoors in an environmentally-friendly manner.

Is Subaru Coming Out with a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle?

The 2022 Crosstrek is the only hybrid vehicle Subaru currently offers in the U.S., and the 2022 Forester is now available with a Hybrid e-Boxer option in Japan, Europe, Australia, and Asia.  It is likely that Forester Hybrid e-Boxer models will be available in the U.S. in 2024.  Subaru’s first electric vehicle (EV), the Solterra, will be available in 2022 as a 2023 model and is designed to be environmentally friendly.  Subaru continues to develop vehicles that meet societal needs and incorporate advanced technologies to contribute to the health of our environment.  Several Subaru models, including Forester, Outback, and Impreza, come with the Pzev designation, or Partial Zero Emission Vehicle. Vehicles with the Pzev designation are the cleanest gas-powered vehicles available, meeting the Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) tailpipe standard, so they have zero evaporative emissions.

Will Subaru Ever Make a Hybrid?

Subaru has been manufacturing the plug-in Crosstrek hybrid since 2018.  The 2022 Hybrid Forester released overseas features the e-BOXER system, which combines an electric motor with the BOXER engine and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.  In this system, the electric motor is used at low speeds for environmentally-friendly zero-emission driving.  The BOXER engine is used to power the car at high speeds, while recharging the battery.  Subaru plans to offer strong hybrid e-BOXER options for more models by the mid-2020’s, which will most likely be next-generation 2024 models of the Forester, Ascent, and Outback.

What will the 2023 Subaru Solterra offer Drivers?

The 2023 Subaru Solterra is the first model to feature the e-Subaru Global Platform, an EV platform that was jointly developed with Toyota.  Solterra gets its name by combining the Latin words for “sun” and “earth,” and is the first AWD electric vehicle to feature the legendary standard capability of Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.  The Solterra is an all-electric SUV packed with next-generation features inside and out.  These features include 8.3 inches of ground clearance, state-of-the-art active safety, and a stunning available 12.3-inch touchscreen.

What is Subaru’s Vision for Future Vehicles?

By steadily expanding a product lineup of environmentally-friendly hybrid and electric vehicles, Subaru aims to reduce CO2 emissions for new models to make them more environmentally friendly.  Plug-in hybrids like the 2022 Crosstrek will be further developed alongside newer strong hybrid models like the 2022 Forester Hybrid e-BOXER released overseas this year.  Subaru also plans on incorporating the new e-Subaru Global Platform into a broader EV lineup in the future. In general, Subaru has goals to apply electrification technologies to all Subaru vehicles sold worldwide by the first half of the 2030’s. Contact Rafferty Subaru for more information about Subaru’s environmentally-friendly innovations!
