What is Comparable to a Subaru Forester?

With updates to its technology, style, comfort and safety, the 2022 Subaru Forester is a versatile compact crossover that measures up to the competition.  Other best-selling compact SUVs include the Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, Ford Escape, and Nissan Rogue.  Each of these compact crossovers has their individual appeal, and the Subaru Forester excels in practicality and off-road capability.  Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard on the 2022 Forester, but is not standard on the Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape or Honda CRV.  The Forester also boasts a 9.2-inch ground clearance compared to 8.6 inches on the Toyota RAV4, 7.8 inches for the Ford Bronco Sport, and 8.1 inches on the Honda Passport.  Auto reviewers have been comparing the Subaru Forester against the Nissan Rogue, since both are top competitors in the compact crossover SUV market.

What are the Similarities Between the 2022 Subaru Forester and the Nissan Rogue?

The 2022 Subaru Forester and Nissan Rogue share similarities in size, safety features, fuel economy and powertrains.  Both use 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder engine engines that achieve about 180 horsepower. The Subaru Forester gets up to 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque, while the Nissan Rogue achieves 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque on the front wheels as standard, AWD optional.  Both vehicles use a Continuously Variable Transmission and have similar fuel economy.  On the base front-wheel drive model, the Nissan Rogue achieves a slightly higher fuel economy at 27/35mpg (city/highway).  However, looking at a Rogue model with AWD, which is standard on the Forester, the fuel economy is identical at 26/33mpg (city/highway).

Is a Subaru Forester Bigger than a Nissan Rogue?

Although the exterior dimensions of the Nissan Rogue average an inch longer than the Forester, the Forester leads in terms of interior passenger space.  Sitting at the top of its class in passenger space, the Forester offers up to 41.2 inches of headroom to front-row passengers and 39.6 inches for back-seat passengers.  Alternatively, the Rogue trails behind at 41.1 and 39.2 inches.  The Forester also leads in legroom, with 43.3 inches in the front and 39.4 inches of legroom in the back.  The Rogue offers the same 43.3 inches of legroom in the front, but comes in slightly behind with 38.5 inches in the back. In addition, the 2022 Subaru Forester can also tow up to 1,500 lbs as opposed to 1,350 lbs for the Rogue.

Which is safer, the Nissan Rogue or the Subaru Forester?

Subaru is very proud of their safety record, and ratings of the Forester show that this commitment to safety has not waned.  The 2022 Subaru Forester received a five star rating for both front and side crashes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, as well as a Top Safety Pick + designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  The Rogue was also awarded the Top Safety Pick +, however a two-star front passenger side crash rating lowers its overall NHTSA crash test score.  Both vehicles are geared towards families, so many automated safety features like automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear-cross traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available on both.  The 2022 Forester comes standard with Subaru's EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which has been shown to decrease the rate of rear-end collisions with injuries by 85%.

Which Vehicle has Better Ground Clearance?

In terms of ground clearance, the Forester comes out on top. The 2022 Subaru Forester has 9.2-inches of ground clearance, while the Nissan Rogue clears 8.2 inches.  In general, the Forester is geared more towards off-road driving and is better equipped for rough terrain.  Between this superior ground clearance and the standard Symmetrical All Wheel Drive, the Forester has a solid foundation to handle safely on rough terrain and winter roads.  The Rogue has a more expensive option for AWD, but comes standard as a front-wheel drive vehicle.  This, combined with the lower ground clearance, make it a less desirable option for difficult terrain and winter weather.

Which is better: the Nissan Rogue or the Subaru Forester?

As always, there are pros and cons to each of these vehicles, but the Forester leads in terms of engine performance, passenger space, off-road capability, and safety ratings.  If you are looking for a new compact SUV, look no further than Rafferty Subaru.  Come in today to check out our current inventory of the 2022 Subaru Forester and take one out for a test drive.
