What are the Features of the 2022 Subaru BRZ?

The all-new completely redesigned 2022 Subaru BRZ is equipped with a new, more powerful 2.4-liter direct-injection Subaru BOXER engine, retuned suspension, upgraded transmission, and a more rigid chassis. The BRZ features the classic front engine/rear-wheel drive layout of a sports car, along with all of the modern technology developed over decades of Subaru motorsport engineering. A near perfect weight distribution from front to back and an overall low curb weight makes the 2022 BRZ a nimble sports car built for serious driving. The new BRZ also comes with larger 18-inch alloy wheels, available Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and a revised and upgraded braking system that provides increased stopping force. The 2022 Subaru BRZ also comes with the most current Subaru safety and tech features available.

What Vehicles are Comparable to the 2022 Subaru BRZ?

There are many competitors in the sports car market, but the most comparable rivals to the 2022 Subaru BRZ include the Toyota 86, Hyundai Veloster N, Chevrolet Camaro, and Ford Mustang.  The Toyota 86 and BRZ handle much the same, but the BRZ is more firmly planted in the rear and less likely to drift.  The Hyundai Veloster N is a stiffer ride with more power than the BRZ.  The Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang offer the same sporty ride in a larger package with more power, offered in both coupe and convertible options. The Mazda Miata is the closest rival to the BRZ, although it's offered as a convertible rather than a coupe.

What are the Similarities and Differences between the BRZ and the Miata?

Both the BRZ and Miata have four-cylinder engines, six-speed manual transmissions with available automatic options, and rear-wheel drive.  Both cars deliver high level motorsport performance for less than $35,000, which is rare in the sports car market.  Mazda's Miata is equipped with their Skyactiv four-cylinder engine, giving 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque.  The 2022 Subaru BRZ takes the edge in terms of engine performance with the new 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, which delivers 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.  While the Miata may offer more fun with the top down, it can be a tight fit for tall passengers with the top up.  The BRZ provides more passenger and cargo room, making it a more practical day-to-day vehicle.

Does the BRZ have Good Handling?

Drivers have full control over the BRZ with a proper three pedal, 6-speed manual transmission that has close ratios and a standard throw shifter.  Quick 13.5:1-ratio electric-powered-assisted rack and pinion steering gives an incredible connection to the road and almost instant steering response.  Subaru's engineers re-tuned the MacPherson struts in front and the multi-link rear suspension to give the 2022 Subaru BRZ even better cornering abilities. The new model also has a wider rear track for improved stability and reinforced suspension mounting points for increased performance. The chassis and body of the 2022 BRZ have also been reengineered for a lower weight and lower center of gravity, 50% increased torsional rigidity, and 60% increased front lateral rigidity. All of these features together give drivers a smooth, direct feel for the road with near-instantaneous response.

Does the Subaru BRZ have a Quality Interior?

The 2022 Subaru BRZ has a well built and upgraded interior that comes standard with cloth upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter handle, and STARLINK 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus. Opting for the Limited trim level of the BRZ adds heated front seats and ultrasuede/leather-trimmed upholstery with red leather bolsters to the interior. The BRZ has four seats with dual-zone automatic climate control and a total of 77.2 cubic feet of passenger volume with an additional 6.3 cubic feet of cargo volume in the trunk.

Which is Better, the Mazda Miata or the Subaru BRZ?

As always this question comes down to preference. The 2022 Subaru BRZ has more power and cargo space than the Miata, but the Miata is slightly cheaper and comes as a convertible.  Subaru's BRZ starts at $27,995, with the Limited model starting at $30,495.  The Sport model of the 2022 Miata is priced from $27,650, with the Grand Touring model at the top of the trim levels, priced from $32,650.  Both cars deliver high level motorsport performance, but if you plan on using your sports car for more than driving excursions, the BRZ is the right choice.  The convertible design of the Miata can provide quite a thrill, but the BRZ outperforms the engine performance of the Miata and has enough passenger and cargo volume to be practical for daily use.
