The Redesigned 2022 Subaru BRZ

Subaru has announced a redesigned model of the BRZ for 2022 that prioritizes lightweight agility in a pure sports car design at an affordable price.  The 2022 Subaru BRZ is the first in a new generation of Subaru's compact sports cars, with a slightly longer span and lower height than previous models, as well as more distinct bodywork.  The interior of the 2022 BRZ has been reimagined with the Subaru Starlink system serving as a control center for entertainment, navigation, safety features, and more.  A 2.4-liter direct injection Subaru Boxer engine provides 228 horsepower, which is more than the standard power on competing models.

2022 Subaru BRZ Performance

The upgraded engine in the 2022 Subaru BRZ brings torque up to 184 lb-ft from 156 lb-ft on previous models, allowing it to achieve 0-60mph in 5.8-7.0 seconds.  It has also recorded quarter-mile times between 14.3-15.3 seconds, and a top speed of 140mph.  The 2022 BRZ comes standard with rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual transmission, but a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is optional for an additional $1,600.

Is the BRZ AWD Like Other Subaru's?

The BRZ is unique in the Subaru lineup, since it is the only model that does not offer all-wheel drive. There are a few reasons why AWD will probably not be added to the rear-wheel drive coupe design of the BRZ.  The compact design and flat-four-cylinder Subaru Boxer engine sitting low in the vehicle's chassis gives the BRZ a lower than average center of gravity. This front engine rear-drive configuration also allows the engine to be placed lower and closer to the center of the chassis, keeping the BRZ compact and contributing to its great handling characteristics. The rear-wheel drive driving dynamics of the 2022 Subaru BRZ matches the performance of much more expensive sports cars, and adding all-wheel drive would compromise the balance of this design.

2022 Subaru BRZ Safety and Security

A 2022 Subaru BRZ is not only an eye catching, fast moving sports car, but a capable and safe vehicle that holds a good resale value. This year's BRZ model features an upgraded braking system for increased stopping forces.  Quick 13.5:1-ratio electronic-power-assisted rack and pinion steering gives drivers almost-instant response to the road in front of them.  EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is available on all trim options of the 2022 BRZ, and has been found to reduce rear-end crashes with injuries by up to 85% with features like Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keep Assist.  Subaru has won many awards for their consistently high resale values, and the BRZ has been shown to have a 38% depreciation over five years.

2022 Subaru BRZ Pricing

There are two trim options for the 2022 Subaru BRZ: Premium and Limited.  Starting at $27,995, the 2022 BRZ Premium includes LED Headlights, Track-Tested Suspension and Torsen Limited Slip Differential, Keyless Access with Push-Button Start, and Subaru Starlink Multimedia navigation, among other features.  The Limited model starts at $30,495 and adds Leather/Ultrasuede-trimmed upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Tires, Heated Front Seats, and LED Steering Responsive Headlights.

Does the 2022 Subaru WRX have Manual Transmission?

The 2022 Subaru WRX gives you total control over your performance with a quick-shifting 6-speed manual transmission, standard at all trim levels.  Also available is the all-new Subaru Performance Transmission with Paddle Shifters, which combines manual fingertip paddle shifting and an 8-speed manual mode.  Subaru's Performance Transmission features automatic downshift blip control, 30% faster upshifts and 50% faster downshifts, offering a quicker and smarter response to driver input.

Is the 2022 Subaru WRX fast?

The 2022 Subaru WRX is designed to maintain traction on all surfaces, performing at high speeds on straight roads and tight curves.  Subaru's 2022 model of the WRX has recorded a 0-60mph time of 5.6 seconds and a quarter mile time of 14.0 seconds at 98.7mph.  Bigger pistons and an improved turbo system with an electronically controlled wastegate and air bypass valves makes the Subaru Boxer Engine in the 2022 WRX more responsive and provides a broader torque curve.  The top speed of a WRX is 155mph, and 174mph at the STI trim level.

Are WRX Expensive to Maintain?
The Subaru WRX is a relatively inexpensive car to maintain, and can achieve a long lifespan with regular maintenance.  According to a study by WithClutch, the WRX has a yearly car maintenance of $682, while the average vehicle costs $651.  The study also showed that a WRX requires significant repairs less frequently than the average vehicle, which is an indicator of long term quality.  With proper care and maintenance, the 2022 Subaru WRX can last around 300,000 miles.

How Much Will the 2022 Subaru WRX Cost?

The Base model of the 2022 Subaru WRX starts at $27,495.  A Premium upgrade comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, All-Weather Package with heated front seats, and a power-tilt/sliding moonroof, starting at $30,045. The WRX Limited trim option starts at $32,095 and adds Subaru Starlink Safety and Security System, Leather-Trimmed Upholstery, and LED Steering Responsive Headlights, among other features.  STI models of the 2022 WRX include track-tuned suspension, a 310-horsepower turbocharged engine, and a 6-piston/2-piston Brembo high-performance braking system, with pricing starting at $37,245.  The STI Limited option combines the luxury features of the Limited model and performance features of the STI, starting at $41,945.  Pricing for the all-new 2022 WRX GT model is still unannounced, but estimated to be around $45,000.
