Subaru achieves its Earth-friendly goals through its Subaru Loves the Earth initiative. From manufacturing to recycling to fuel efficient vehicles, Subaru does its part to support the environment this Earth Day and every day!
Subaru Loves the Earth: Zero-Landfill Manufacturing Plant
Subaru is a leader in Earth-friendly zero-landfill manufacturing. Subaru’s zero-landfill manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana, is the first of its kind in the automotive industry. The plant produces all Subaru vehicles sold in the United States and Subaru products sold worldwide. The plant uses 100 percent renewable energy and recycles 99 percent of water to cool engines during production. It also produces zero waste from its manufacturing process.

Subaru Loves the Earth: The Solterra is Subaru’s First All-Electric Vehicle
Subaru’s first all-electric vehicle is the Subaru Solterra, which has a range of up to 300 miles and can be charged either at home or at public charging stations. The Solterra can be fully charged in as little as 4 hours, making it perfect for city dwellers who want to reduce their carbon footprint while still getting around town. The Solterra has an impressive top speed of 85 mph—enough power for enjoyable driving around town or long road trips. This groundbreaking technology is just one example of how Subaru cares about setting an Earth-friendly example.
Subaru Loves the Earth: Pzev Vehicles
Subaru manufactures PZEV vehicles, or partial zero emission vehicles. They emit low levels of pollutants and greenhouse gasses while meeting the most stringent government standards. These Earth-friendly cars have been designed to reduce smog-forming emissions by at least 90% while also reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 20%. This means that Subaru’s PZEV technology helps to reduce the impact on our environment and make Earth Day a little better for everyone!

Subaru Loves the Earth: Subaru Fuel-Efficient Vehicles
Subaru’s commitment to being Earth-friendly is evident in their vehicles. A recent study found that Subaru was among the top three automakers in terms of the low greenhouse gas emissions and the best fuel economy. Subaru has been working hard to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, which has resulted in increased fuel efficiency. The Subaru Impreza clocks in as the most fuel-efficient Subaru, with up to 28 mpg for city driving and 36 mpg on the highway. Subaru’s efforts have paid off; their cars are some of the most environmentally friendly on the road today— and they look good while doing it!
Subaru Loves the Earth: TerraCycle at Subaru Dealerships

Here are some examples of what you can recycle at your local Subaru dealership:
- Plastic cups and lids
- Candy wrappers
- Snack wrappers
- Styrofoam cups
- Coffee capsules
- Creamer capsules

These products will be processed by TerraCycle and turned into functional, high-quality recycled products like park benches, picnic tables and playground materials.
