As a Subaru owner, you love getting out and about in all kinds of weather, but nothing compares to finding outdoor family fun in Philly in the spring and summer. There's more to do in terms of family fun in and outside of the city of Philadelphia than ten blog posts could handle, but here are some of the highlights of places that you need to go.

Getting the family outdoors into nature is always a big draw when you have plenty of activities that can keep them engaged. Healthy outdoor fun like hiking, biking, paddling, and nature watching are all activities that can be fun and safe when geared to the age of your kids. Let's start in our own backyard with the expansive Fairmount Park System.

Wissahickon Valley Park is just one of the great standout areas of the Fairmount Park system in Philadelphia. Start with Forbidden Drive for a great nature stroll or bike rides that are easily navigable where you can take in Wissahickon Creek. This is also one of the few places within the confines of the city where you can gain access to public stables where they offer horseback riding lessons to kids of all ages. Young kids can explore footpaths around the Wissahickon Environmental Center (the "Tree House"); older ones can hike or bike rugged trails leading from Valley Green to the "Indian statue" and the Fingerspan Bridge.

While the Schuylkill River Trail (schuylkillriver.org) stretches 23 miles, it starts in downtown Philadelphia. The trail provides wide scenic, recreational, and historic places all the way to Valley Forge National Historical Park as it tracing the banks of the Schuylkill River. While the paved trail is ideal for walking or biking, you can also take part in cross-country skiing, flying disc golf, horseback riding or mountain biking at select points along the way.

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge is the country's first urban refuge where a rich diversity of wildlife exists in Philadelphia and Folsom (Delaware County). 10 miles of easy bike and hike trails follow the expansive Tinicum Marshlands where there are plenty of accessible sections for even strollers as you wind around a large pond and through the tidal marshes. At the visitor center, check out the fascinating exhibits about the Refuge's amazing variety of wildlife.

The Philadelphia Zoo is America's first zoo with more than 1,300 animals within its 42 acres of Victorian gardens. In addition to the many rare and endangered animals, families can take in the Carousel, the Zooballoon rides and the Express train. There's more to do there than we can lay out in a few short sentences, so chances are you haven't seen and done everything there is to do at the Philadelphia Zoo.

That's just a sampling of some the places that you can go, and there are plenty more. Many of them are free and all are accessible to Subaru owners and their families. Being a Subaru owner is all about the love of the adventure so don’t waste a minute of what Philly has to offer this spring and summer.
