During the month of September, Rafferty Subaru pledged to donate one winter coat to a child in need for each vehicle sold. This was in conjunction with a number of other dealerships in the area and with the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation. Together with other local dealerships, we were able to donate a total of 37,606 coats to children in need. We are so happy that thanks to our customers, over 37,000 children in the Philadelphia area will be warm this coming winter.

Last week, the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation held an event with the School District of Philadelphia, where 6,000 coats were presented to children who live in poverty in the city of Philadelphia. The new winter coats these children received at the event may be the only new piece of clothing they have. The coats will also keep the children warm as they walk to school in the winter, which is the only transportation option for some of them.

These children will also get two warm meals at school, while they may not have much to eat at home. By keeping them warm, we can also keep them fed and educated. A new winter coat goes a long way.

Here are some important facts about the program:
  • Driving Away the Cold, a philanthropic program of the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation, has given 177,858 new winter coats to children in need since 2008. This is an equivalent of about $2.8 million in donations.
  • The coats go to children in the five-county area who would otherwise not have a coat to wear this winter.
  • Rafferty Subaru was one of 172 participating dealerships in the area this year. (Rafferty was responsible for about 200 of the coats that were given out.)
  • 39% of Philadelphia children live in poverty.
  • The forecast is calling for another colder than normal winter this year.

Rafferty Subaru would like to thank the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation for organizing such a wonderful event that directly helps so many children in our neighborhoods. We are proud to participate!
