The all-new 2019 Forester, built on Subaru's Global Platform, offers a quieter ride and better agility than in previous years. Packed with Subaru's state of the art technology and safety features, it's perfect for outdoor adventures, family vacations, and daily commutes. Car-based compact crossover SUV's, like the Forester, have become the best-selling passenger vehicles in the United States, second only to full-size pickups. Because the market for crossover SUV's is quite competitive, manufacturers are continuously updating features and making improvements. Deciding which crossover SUV fits your lifestyle can be quite challenging, due to similarities among them such as fuel efficiency, comfort, and durability.

The Subaru Forester rivals the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. These crossover SUV's have been on the market for a number of years. While all three vehicles offer above average resale, reliability, and safety scores, the Subaru Forester includes more standard features for the price. The Forester's base model features options that are premium add-ons with the CR-V and RAV4.

Subaru Forester Vs Toyota RAV4

  • The Forester and RAV4 are both all-new for 2019. However, the RAV4 will set you back about $1000 more than the Forester.
  • The Forester comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD), providing optimal traction, balance, and control. The RAV4 comes standard with front-wheel drive. AWD is available as an upgrade on the RAV4.
  • Both the RAV4 and Forester come equipped with driver assist technology. The EyeSight suite of forwarding collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane keeping is standard on the Forester. Toyota calls its version the Toyota Safety Sense. However, the Subaru goes one step further with the Forester, including DriverFocus, an anti-distraction, and convenience system.
  • SUBARU STARLINK™ Multimedia with Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto is also standard in the Forester. The RAV4 comes equipped with Apple CarPlay™. Toyota does not currently offer Android Auto.
  • The Forester gets better city fuel economy at 26 MPG to the RAV4's 23 MPG. Highway fuel economy is also better with the Forester at 33 MPG compared to the RAV4's 30 MPG. The Forester will get you further on a tank of gas with 16.6 gallons versus the RAV4's 14.5 gallons to the tank.
  • The Forester boasts slightly more power than the RAV4. The Forester comes equipped with a 2.5-liter BOXER, 4 cylinder engine, and 182 horsepower. The RAV4 has a 2.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine and 176 horsepower.
  • Although the Forester is shorter than the RAV4, it has more overall interior space at 111.9 cubic feet to the RAV4's 101.9 cubic feet. That means more passenger space and cargo space. The Forester's higher roof is more comfortable for taller individuals. Because of a higher perch, outward visibility is much better in the Forester.
  • The ground clearance for the Forester is 8.7 inches compared to the RAV4's 6.3 inches for better performance off-road, around obstacles, and in bad weather conditions.

Subaru Forester Vs Honda CR-V

  • While the Forester is all-new for 2019, the Honda CR-V was all-new last year.
  • The Forester comes standard with the EyeSight driver assistance system featuring adaptive cruise control, lane keeps assist, and pre-collision braking. The CR-V offers similar features through the Honda Sensing Safety Suite, but it is a premium upgrade.
  • The Forester and CR-V have comparable overall fuel economy, but the Forester has better highway 33 MPG to CR-V's 32 MPG. The Forester's 16.6-gallon fuel tank will get you further than the CR-V's 14-gallon fuel tank.
  • The Subaru Forester delivers more power than the Honda CR-V. The Forester has 182 horsepower and is equipped with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard. The Honda CR-V has 170 horsepower and all-wheel drive will cost you extra. The Forester does better than the CR-V in rugged terrain and poor weather due to standard Symmetrical AWD. The CR-V comes with standard front-wheel drive, and AWD is available via an upgrade.
  • The ground clearance for the Forester is 8.7 inches compared to the CR-V's 7.8 for better performance in rugged terrain and poor weather conditions.
  • SUBARU STARLINK™ Multimedia with Apple CarPlay™ and Android™ Auto is standard in the Forester. The CR-V offers similar capabilities, but not on base models.
  • Forester has a sharper turning circle of 35.4 feet versus the CR-V's 37.4 feet which is better for urban navigation and parking.
  • Overall room in the Forester is 111.9 cubic feet versus the CR-V's 105.9 cubic feet. The Forester provides more passenger space, head room, and legroom. It is also higher than the CR-V, appealing to tall passengers. Outward visibility is excellent in the Forester due to its high perch.
With a stunning and sleek design, impressive performance, and top-rated safety features, the Forester is perfect for family adventures and outdoor excursions. It compliments any lifestyle, rural or urban. Contact Rafferty Subaru at 888-491-8404 or stop in to test drive a Forester today.
