At Rafferty Subaru, we embrace the Subaru Love Promise, which aims to help our neighbors and community members in need through service and fundraising. That is why we are donating 15,000 meals to Feeding America to help families in our community who are facing food insecurity during this difficult time in our nation’s history.

What is Feeding America's Goal?

Feeding America is the largest domestic hunger relief organization in the United States. Its goal is to end hunger in America by providing healthy food to those in need from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers. Rafferty Subaru is partnering with Feeding America at a time when more Americans than ever are struggling to feed their families due to the pandemic.

Who Benefits from Feeding America?

It seems hard to believe that in America today people can’t provide enough food for their families. But that is the sad reality, and the pandemic has only made this problem worse. Feeding America benefits Americans of all backgrounds who don’t have enough to eat for themselves and their loved ones.

What are the Statistics on Hunger in the United States?

According to Feeding America, food insecurity is on the rise, with more than 50 million people facing hunger due to the pandemic. On top of that, 35 million people struggled with hunger in 2019 according to the USDA’s report, Household Food Insecurity in the United States. Sadly, households with children are more likely to face food insecurity, and many families do not qualify for federal nutrition programs.

In the Philadelphia Area, How Many People Deal with Food Insecurity?

In 2018, 16.3% of people living in Philadelphia County experienced food insecurity according to Feeding America. The coronavirus pandemic dramatically increased the rate of food insecurity in Philadelphia County, causing the rate to rise to 21.8%. The numbers are equally stark in surrounding suburbs. Delaware County experienced a rise in food insecurity rate from 9.4% in 2018 to a projected 13.9% in 2020. Bucks and Montgomery counties saw rates rise from roughly 7% to 11% from 2018 to 2020. Rafferty Subaru is doing its part to make a difference in the lives of local families who struggle with hunger.
