Halloween is consistently one of the top three days of the year for pedestrian injuries and fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration. Don't become part of the statistic. Here are some tips for keeping everyone safe tonight.
Halloween Driving Safety Tips:
- Don’t drink and drive! If you’re out on the town having fun and you find yourself in need of a ride, check out one of these services: Sober Sam or BeMyDD. They’ll drive both you and your car home safely.
- Keep an eye out for pedestrians – there will definitely be more than usual.
- Use caution when passing a stopped, parked, or idling vehicle – the driver may be dropping off children, or there may be pedestrians near the vehicle that you can’t see.
- Don’t use your cell phone. Avoid distraction as much as possible.
- Yield to children. Kids might not stop before entering the street, either because they don’t see you or because their excitement has overtaken their road safety lessons. Drive at least 5mph below the posted speed limit to give yourself time to react.

Keep Your Own Trick-or-Treaters Safe:
- Remind them about road safety. Tell them to stop and look both ways before crossing the street, and if you’re in the city, remind them to only cross the street at corners and crosswalks.
- Use reflective tape on their costumes, or give them glow sticks or flashlights so that they can be easily seen by drivers.
- Tell them never to cross between parked cars or in other places they can't be seen.
