Let’s face it, we are all itching for spring right now.  Winter weather traps us in our homes for too long and we need a taste of fresh air.  Why not take advantage of a sunny day in March and load the family in your Subaru Outback to visit some beautiful and fun locations in Pennsylvania? You will feel refreshed, spend time with your loved ones, and have a great time.  Below are our top suggestions of local things to do near Philadelphia in March.


  1.  Elmwood Zoo - 1661 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401. A short drive from Philadelphia, the Elmwood Park Zoo currently maintains a park with over 100 species primarily indigenous to the Americas. Some of their most popular animals to visit are the bald and golden eagles, jaguars, squirrel monkeys, red pandas, Chacoan peccaries, howler monkeys, and gray wolves. Presently, 24 species in the collection are managed pursuant to an international SSP (Species Survival Plan), representing threatened and endangered species.  This is a great zoo for younger families to explore, so pack lunches for the kids, load up your Outback and have some fun.


  1. Bushkill Falls - Bushkill Falls is an easy drive in your Subaru Impreza from most anywhere in eastern Pennsylvania.  Called the Niagara Falls of Pennsylvania, Bushkill Falls is sure to wow you.  Nature hikers are enthusiastic about the walk to the Bridal Veil Falls. Here you will follow a nice trail by the Pond Run stream. After that the stream flows into the Little Bushkill where the mountain path leads deep into the forest. Spring-fed waters tumble down the mountainside in a series of three lovely falls so misty in their appearance they are named for brides of love.  You can even hike straight to the main event, majestic Main Falls, where the stream that leads up to the falls drops over the edge of a 100-foot cliff. Looking down you see a deep pool at the bottom, creating a picturesque scene and a moment of awe.



  1. Sand Castle Winery - 755 River Road, Erwinna,

    re in eastern Pennsylvania.  The winery offers a variety of tasting and tour experiences, ranging from on the hour walk-in tastings to extensive wine pairing sessions. Enjoy the setting and the great wine.  During your tour you will learn about the exclusive vines, Vitis Vinifera.  These special seedlings were cloned from European stock and chosen by master winemakers.  


  1.  Philadelphia Flower Show - 12th & Arch Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19107-  This March 11 - 19, 2017 experience Holland in Philadelphia.  Since, 1829, this horticultural event attracts an average of 250,000 visitors each spring to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, a showcase of excellence.  Don’t miss out next week, because the 2017 Flower Show will have diverse horticulture stories, innovative eco-design, and modern urban greening and sustainability efforts showcasing the Netherlands.
